Open Windows, Fire Escapes, Rooftops and Puppy Dogs
During hot weather, many people who don’t have or use air conditioners, like to try to create a cool environment for themselves and their dog. If not thought out well enough, there are some dangers involved:
- If you leave a few windows open in your home to help create a nice cool cross-breeze, be sure to install secure window screens (or safety bars) in any of the windows which will be left open to avoid dogs falling out of windows.
- Many dogs fall from fire-escapes every year as well, and are often seriously injured or killed, so make sure your puppy dog does not have access when unattended.
- If you allow your puppy dog access to your building’s rooftop, make sure the sidewalls which enclose the rooftop are high enough to prevent him from being able to fall or jump off. Always make sure you are with on a roof.
These few tips may save your dog’s life, and may prompt you to consider buying that air conditioner.
