Yes it sounds like a funny scenario, but it is a serious problem. One of the common ways to stop your dog from eating poop (his or others’), is to stop him from being around poop altogether.
Whether it is outside or in a litter box, the best solution is to quickly clean up and dispose of the poop.
The next most important thing is to teach the dog to understand “no” or “no eat” when it sniffs a poop. After the command and you have the dog´s attention, call the dog to you, praise the dog and give it a treat. If you remain consistent in this training process for a few days or weeks, you should be able to eliminate the ‘poop eating dog’ problem.
