Help to Keep Your Puppy From Biting

by puppy on June 8, 2007

Although biting, mouthing and nipping are natural behaviors to a puppy, they can have a tendency to become annoying or even painful as they get older.

Puppies  use these types of behaviors to establish their place in the litter and to explore their world. To help stop your young puppy dog from biting or nipping people, try doing the folowing repetively:

Use a high-pitched, “Ouch!” and gently shake the ruff of her neck or use light pressure on the muzzle and firmly say, “No!” It may take it a few days to sink in, but eventually your puppy will learn that it’s actions are hurting it’s owner, and will stop.

Just remember, your puppy loves you as much as you love it, and it will never intentionally try to hurt you, just like you would never try to hurt it.
