Why Do Puppy Dogs Dig Holes In The Ground?
Although there has never been a dog who actually told us why they like to dig holes, one can assume it is possibly for some of the reasons below:
- Some dogs like Terriers and Foxhunters may dig because when they hunt, they dig out the den of their prey.
- Before dogs were domesticated they would dig holes to bury and hide their food. Dogs may still do this out of instinct.
- Some may hear creatures that live under ground and attempt to dig them out. Remember, dogs have excellent hearing many times more capable than that of humans.
- Some dig for a place to lie down. Digging makes a sort-of nest, and removes sharp objects so it will be comfortable to lie in.
- Some dogs may simply just do it out of boredom and/or anxiety.
Alhtough you may never exactly know why, these are some pretty good reasons. How to stop a dog from digging up your yard, well that is another whole subject that will be wrote about at another time ;0)
