Dog Obesity

Obesity is an epidemic in this world that we  have been dealing with for awhile. It is time to get educated on what obesity really is and the lasting effects it has on your body. It is sort of like that saying, “you are what you eat.” You can’t expect to put a bunch of junk in your body and wonder why you are so tired and can’t get anything done. This problem is also effecting our dogs. Dog obesity is on the rise and we need to something about it fast. Get educated on what you can do to help your dog.

Here is an article I wrote on the dangers of dog obesity:

We all love our dogs, but sometimes we can love them too much, by giving them too many treats and snacks. Obesity is a problem in over 40% of our pet dogs, and it causes a number of serious health issues.

The most obvious effect of excess weight is arthritis. Your dog’s four legs aren’t meant to carry too much excess weight. If they do, there is wear and tear on his joint cartilage, and the development of degenerative joint disease. This hurts. It’s not easy getting up in the morning, and going for his regular stroll isn’t as enjoyable as it used to be.

People really can be so misguided in their intentions – thinking that “treating” the dog, or giving it the same type food as humans is a way of showing love, when, in fact its so so bad for the dog. Some people just don’t get it and its a really sad thing to see, for the owner and the dog.

We need to educate people not only in the way they eat but also in the way they feed their pets!
